About us

Forests for the next hundred years

We turn grassland into living forest. We choose the land, plant native trees, look after them for decades and show you how they grow.

More than planting a tree

Our approach goes far beyond putting a seedling in the ground. We select the best land, plan the whole process, bring in specialists to decide where every tree goes, and manage the forest through its entire life, based on a scientific methodology.

All our forests are planted on former grassland. Every tree you plant becomes part of a forest that did not exist before.

From grassland to forest

You hear from us at every key step of a project, and once a year we report on how the forest is doing.

  1. 1

    Land

We find and secure land where trees grow quickly and into healthy, high-quality forest.

  2. 2

    Planning

Specialists plan the mix of species and the place of every tree.

  3. 3

    Planting

Seedlings from a local nursery go into the ground in spring or autumn, when they root best.

  4. 4

    Growing

We look after the young forest for decades and publish a yearly impact report.

Our first carbon park is planted

On 27 April 2024, families, partners and foresters came together on a stretch of former grassland and planted our first carbon park: about 10,000 young spruce and birch, one seedling at a time. We planted it together with two forestry companies, Eesti Metsameister and Privātais Mežs, and with everyone who planted trees through this website.

The first summer was hot and dry. The grass that grew up around the seedlings shaded them from the heat, and in the autumn our foresters cleared it so the young trees got light and room. The following spring they replaced every seedling that had not made it. With that replanting, 13,600 seedlings have gone into the park's soil.

That is what looking after a forest for decades means, and it is all in the park's Yearly Impact Report.

Where trees grow best

Trees grow fastest where it is neither too cold, too wet nor too hot. The northern temperate zone has long summer days, enough rain and fertile soil, which makes it one of the best places in the world for a new forest to take root.

Carbon Reserve is made of carbon parks. The first one was planted in spring 2024 in Estonia, the region our team calls home.

Backed by science, open about progress

A forest takes a lifetime to grow. These are the ways we make sure it grows well, and that you can follow it.

A scientific base

Together with scientists and universities we manage the forests according to our Forest Management Methodology, which aims for strong, healthy growth and gives us tools to measure how much carbon the forest takes up.

Reports at every step

Updates at the key phases of every project (land, planning, planting) and a Yearly Impact Report, so you can see what your trees are doing.

Certification to come

Forest certification is only possible once a forest is established. We will apply for PEFC certification for our planted forests, which adds a yearly check by an independent third party.

Carbon Reserve is part of GreenDeal. Our mission is to build a sustainable future by bringing people together against climate change: planting trees, restoring ecosystems and promoting practices that put nature first.

Through collaboration, education and direct action we want to inspire people, organisations and governments to make meaningful contributions to a greener future.
